What to do with your life, that is really an ultimate question. One that I thought I had answered a few years ago. Go to college, then go to med-school and become a doctor. The end. Then I found out I was pregnant last summer and everything I thought I knew has been turned upside down. I went from doctor to physicians assistant and now I’m considering nursing. I am just at the point where I want to be done with college so we can buy a house and better cars and I can spend more time with my daughter instead of constantly worrying about homework or the next big test. If I go to be a doctor it’s 10 more years in school, a PA it’s 5, and a nurse is3 including this year. BF has no opinion so that doesn’t help, he just says he’ll support my decision as long as I finish with some sort of degree so I don’t have to pay all my grants back. So here are the pros and cons.
Nursing Pros:
3 more years of school left
not as hard of classes so more free time
flexible work schedule
hire on bonus
not on an on call basis
cheaper school
can work while in school
decent pay if I can be a lactation consultant or labor and delivery nurse
more time off when needed
CONS:
I don’t think I will LOVE the classes like I do now
I don’t know if I would consider doing anything except LC or L&D nursing and there’s not that high of demand for those
not nearly as much pay as being a doctor or PA
I’ll miss my friends from Parkside
I REALLY don’t like Gateway (it’s ghetto)
PA PROS:
LOVE CLASSES!
love parkside
live science
really good paycheck
CONS:
Way more time in school
less time to spend with my daughter before she grows up and doesn’t want to hang out with me anymore
less time to be involved in her schooling and day to day life
not a flexible schedule
on call, so may interrupt my life
will owe way more money when I get out of school
