A Fork in the Road of Life

What to do with your life, that is really an ultimate question.  One that I thought I had answered a few years ago.  Go to college, then go to med-school and become a doctor.  The end.  Then I found out I was pregnant last summer and everything I thought I knew has been turned upside down.  I went from doctor to physicians assistant and now I’m considering nursing.  I am just at the point where I want to be done with college so we can buy a house and better cars and I can spend more time with my daughter instead of constantly worrying about homework or the next big test.  If I go to be a doctor it’s 10 more years in school, a PA it’s 5, and a nurse is3 including this year.  BF has no opinion so that doesn’t help, he just says he’ll support my decision as long as I finish with some sort of degree so I don’t have to pay all my grants back.  So here are the pros and cons.

Nursing Pros:

3 more years of school left

not as hard of classes  so more free time

flexible work schedule

hire on bonus

not on an on call basis

cheaper school

can work while in school

decent pay if I can be a lactation consultant or labor and delivery nurse

more time off when needed

CONS:

I don’t think I will LOVE the classes like I do now

I don’t know if I would consider doing anything except LC or L&D nursing and there’s not that high of demand for those

not nearly as much pay as being a doctor or PA

I’ll miss my friends from Parkside

I REALLY don’t like Gateway (it’s ghetto)

PA PROS:

LOVE CLASSES!

love parkside

live science

really good paycheck

CONS:

Way more time in school

less time to spend with my daughter before she grows up and doesn’t want to hang out with me anymore

less time to be involved in her schooling and day to day life

not a flexible schedule

on call, so may interrupt my life

will owe way more money when I get out of school

Manic Depression

So, if you know me, my other blogs or my myspace page your about to learn why my handle is manik or ultra_manic.

When I was about 14 I was put in a mental institution, no I’m not crazy it was actually a stunt I pulled gone wrong, but while I was there I was diagnosed as manic depressive nowadays called bi-polar disorder.  They said they don’t normally diagnose this disorder in young children but it was so obvious I had it, so onto Prozac I went.  I later found out that my mother has the same problem and it can be hereditary.

I was on Prozac, Trazadone, and Adavan (for my anger issues) for almost a year.  Prozac made me feel like I was living in a shell, happy on the outside, but still slowly dying on the inside.  So I did what any rebellious teenager would do, stopped taking them.

Life went on, manic states swinging to depression states and back again, I just wrote it off as being a hormonal teen.  Apparently though at age 22 it is still affecting my daily life, my ability to love and my concentration on school, hobbies and work.  I didn’t really realize this, I just attributed it to stress, until I talked to a councilor today and she confirmed what was buried in the back of my mind.

So in my last attempt to save myself and my relationship for my beautiful daughter I am going to give Prozac another try and possible some adavan to calm me in the moments I try to throw my bf’s shit on the lawn, or take a hammer to his car…

Should teens have sex education in schools?

To not teach sex education in schools is to deny that our teens have sex, and this would be the worst thing to do.

Sex education teaches our children about what sex is,what comes from sex (ie pregnancy and STDs), and how to safely have sex. Some schools even go so far as to offer free condoms. I think this one of the best things public schools have to offer our teens.

I also am a firm believer that children should be taught about sex at home and before they are teens, but unfortunately this doesn’t happen in a lot of homes. Children NEED, I cannot stress the need enough, to be educated about safe sex and the dangers of sex. If they are not what’s to stop them from having unprotected sex?

Parents that are against sex education have to ask themselves if they would rather their child come home with a condom and some factual information that they may or may not use, or come home with AIDS or a baby.

We must not live in denial that many teens are either having or thinking about having sex. If we deny this fact we put our most precious possession in harms way. I personally would hate to think that my daughter will have sex as a teen, but I also understand that it happens and it is their choice to make, not ours. Therefore, if she does make the decision to have sex I want her wearing the armor of information, and a condom.

I think that on top of sex education, we as parents should reinforce this information to our children and do it early and frequently. One talk is not enough. Children need to know that sex is not a dirty thing, and although it should wait until they are adults, they can openly talk to their parents about it should they ever have questions or need advise.

Remember, knowledge is power.

Will discovery of fat gene prevent obesity? *Helium*

I don’t believe that there is such a thing as a “fat gene”. Most of know that becoming overweight is caused by eating too much food that is high in sugars and fat and the lack of appropriate exercise.

I myself am slightly overweight. I have always struggled with my weight, and so has most of my immediate family, but I don’t for one second think it’s due to genetics. My family makes poor choices in the foods that they eat, myself included. For a while I was at my goal weight, then I got pregnant and I lost my fight against the foods I’ve always craved.

Somethings that may cause you to gain weight can be genetic, such as lower than normal metabolism, thyroid problems, etc. These things can be struggle, but if you eat right and exercise you can abolish the weight these things add on.

A lot of people believe that there is a fat gene because most obese people have many obese family members. This is more than likely due to environmental influences. If your parents eat unhealthy and you eat pizza for dinner 4 times a week your family will probably become overweight. Eating too much fattening food is not genetic, it is environmental.

Back to school sale, kids clothes are all $0.48

I’m not sure if it’s nationwide Salvation Armies, but the ones in Kenosha and Racine, WI.  There is a sale where all kids clothes under size 12 are 48 cents.  Can’t beat that price.  We found some very cute things also.  I found some Old Navy and Gap clothes for Echo that were in new condition and Bob found a bunch of stuff for his kids.  When kids are young you might as well buy there before they start bitching about how they can’t wear things from the thrift store and yadda yadda.

Farm & Fleet is for me???

I never would have thought that I would like this store so much. When I think of F&F I think of the farming community, which is not me. I have no need for farming or gardening equipment. But…. the other day my boyfriend saw the F&F weekly ad and it had the pet version of the super-yard gate I wanted for Echo. I said I would take a look at it since it was cheaper than other places (except Walmart.com).

We go there today and it turns out the gate is the SAME EXACT thing as the children’s super-yard. Same pictures on the box and everything, just marketed for pets, so we got it. I also saw they had those little generic gates that are usually $13 for $10.99 so we got that too for the laundry room.

Here’s the kicker.

They have the BEST baby and children’s clothing! I wanted to see if they had a sippy cup because Echo is 6 months now and I want to try giving her a cup. Couldn’t find a cup, but I found baby clothes heaven. They have an entire wall of Carter’s clothes the cheapest I’ve seen them. I was going to go to Toy’s R Us because of their selection, but F&F has the same things plus lots more! Also, it’s a lot cheaper. The footies or whatever they’re called at TRU were $15-$20 and I believe they were all $10 at F&F. I didn’t look at all the prices but….

I briefly looked at the older girls clothes and they also have a great selection and very cute outfits.

So that’s that, I’m going to Farm & Fleet for all my child’s clothing needs.

6 month check-up for Echo

First off the stats.  She weighed 17.4 lbs (oh my!) and was 26 inches tall.  She is back up to almost the 75th percentile, which is fine since that’s where she was born at and would have stayed at had we not had the wieght gain issues we did early on.  Dr. says he’s not worried about it.

Dr and nurse were both VERY impressed with Echo’s advanced development.  The nurse asked if she could roll both ways and if she reached for objects.  I explained that Echo’s been crawling for almost a month and is now climbing furniture to get to things, and walks along furniture after pulling herself to a standing position.  I also told her that I had to read in my parenting books in the 7th and 8th months to keep up with her.  I was glowing with pride lol.

Dr. said we can giver her baby cookies to help her learn to feed herself with her hand, although she can feed herself with a spoon (no she can’t scoop, but if you hand her a spoon she gets it right in her mouth with no mess 90% of the time.

We talked about nutrition because Gerber pormotes the 5 a day for fuits and veggies, but I can’t get her to eat that much and Dr said don’t worry as long as she’s on formula she’ll get what she needs.  Off the subject a little, but according to Gerber, who goes by stages for feeding not age, she should be eating finger foods and table foods because she’s a crawler.  LMAO can you imagine a 6 month old eating a sandwhich.

Also a bit off the subject I was so graciously “hit on” by my Dr’s physician’s assistant on the way out.  He was hot too lol.  Makes a girl feel good after just having a baby.  Then again he also knows I’m going to the same school he did for eitheer PA or anasteasiology, so it’s not like a random incounter, we had talked for some time the other day.

We don’t go to see the Dr again until the end of November when she is 9 months old.  Oh my, what will I do without a check-up for 3 whole months?!  Ah well, I’m always paraniod so i’ll probably be ther next month lol.

so high….

This really sucks.  I'm in a lot of pain from getting my wisdom teeth pulled and Bob is outta town so I'm on my own with a 6 month old.  I'm either in lots-o-pain or high off painkillers.  I wish I could just stay in bed all day.  I hate the world today.

Do you ever look at the top searches for the day on sites like Yahoo. There is some crazy shit on there, and with sites as big as Yahoo, you gotta wonder how many people looked up something like puffer fish. WTF.

Getting teeth pulled is not a lot of fun

As my last post said I got my 2 top wisdom teeth pulled today. It's not a whole lot of fun. The actual pulling of teeth isn't bad at all. The Novocain shot isn't great, but it's not the worst thing in the world either. A bit of a pinch, but apparently when they pull upper teeth you also get 2 shot in the roof your mouth per tooth, so I got 4. Not cool.

The actual pulling is quick and painless, thanks to the shots. Then they give you pain killers, woot.

It's the in between time when the shots wear off and the pain killers have yet to kick in that's a bit brutal. When I got my bottom teeth pulled the pain was unbearable, especially the time I had stitches in my gums. I rolled around on the bed wishing I was dead, and the vicadine didn't do me much good on that occasion. I have found that eating something very cold such as ice cream can cure the pain while you wait, but you pretty much have to eat it constantly.

This time the after pain hasn't been too bad. The dentist said that the upper teeth hurt a lot less than bottom teeth when pulled. Boy am I glad he was right! The main downfall to my experience today was that I had my 6 month old daughter all day. Her father is out of town for the week. Luckily though my grandmother came over from 11-3:30 to help me with her, and it was a HUGE help. But I ended up taking two pain killers because one didn't quite do the trick. Now, you must understand one thing about me and pain killers, if I take more than one we don't get along very well. It feels like I've drunk way too much and I'm nauseas and the room is spinning, so by the time Echo woke up from her nap at 5pm I was not feeling so well.

So there I lay on the floor for a while, until time for dinner, she ate some solids, then a bottle, then I was back on the floor until time for bed.

Got the house to myself….

Bob is taking care of the kids up in Racine this week, so Echo and I have the house to ourselves… I guess lol. Last time Bob went on Vacation it was nice just the 2 of us. So hopefully it will be the same this time.

I have to go get my 2 top wisdom teeth pulled today. OUCH. Well, not the pulling, the after pain. And I can't take more than 1 painkiller b/c they make me sick. My grandmother is coming over to haelp me with Echo b/c I will be between pain and being high all day and Bob is gone so we'll se how the day goes…..

hair hair everywhere

I need hair. Yes, I buy hair, so technically it is my own. My home grown hair just isn't cutting it these days. Too damaged. I suppose that's what I get for dying it all sorts of crazy colors and such. I sure wish I would have discovered fake hair back in my teenage days, then I may not have this problem. Oh well.

I get my $$$ from school next week and will be attempting to make my very first set of clip-in human hair wefts. I choose to make these because I searched online to purchase some (as I am a mother and student, so I do not have much in the way of free time), but at $130 a pop I cannot afford. Well, I suppose I could afford them if I only wanted one pair, but I am a woman of variety.

I of course want the natural matching color for most days, but then I would like something blazen, like pink. Pink seems to look really good on me :)
Also I would like something contrast such as a burgandy to go with my brown hair. So 3 sets = $390. Too much for me.

I also am thinking about getting a 3/4 wig and some fringe. I'm not sure if I'm brave enough to take the wig plunge…. but maybe, there are so very fierce. Yes, thats a top model reference.

Will update with pics.

augtober

That's what month it is. Thank you “climate change”. I'm sooo glad we don't get shit like hurricanes or tornadoes. And people think Katrina was bad, what and see what the weather has in store for us yet. Damn our consumerism!!! I wish I wasn't a lazy ass so I could stop using my car all the time lol, im a hypocrite.

Seriously though people, change your fucking light bulbs. They save you money and they save the planet, win win. Also, turn the fucking light off when you leave the room. Watch mythbusters, uless you plan on being out of the room for less than 3 seconds your saving money and electicity (and CO2 output) if you'd just turn off the damn light. I now it's hard to lift your arm as you walk out of the room, but come on we're talking about saving the planet here.

Oh yeah, I'm not hippie. Seriously, I don't like hippies.

PS if your buying new appliances, buy the energy efficent ones, yeah they may cost alittle more now, but they will save you loads of cash in the long run.

Get paid to post share your opinion

This site is really cool. I can't even remember how i came across it, but that's nto the point. You get to share your opinion on different subjects or debates and get payed for it. Helium shares it's advertising revenue with you. The pay depends on your post rating and the topic of your post. An article about personal finance is bound to make more than chess because of the advertisments. If you have an opinion on everything like me check it out.

pretty cool way to make money online

I came accross this site, and I am always looking for a way to earn some extra cash, but I refuse to pay for it (those are usually scams anyway). So i signed up. I am still waiting for my blog to be accepted, but from looking around the site it looks really cool. You get paid to blog. How frickin easy is that. Here is the link.

Writer's Block: Ewww

What is one food that you refuse to try? Why?

Veal.  I will not eat tortured baby cow.

SHE CRAWLED!!!

WOOOOOT! My 5 month old baby crawled.  And not just once.  I was sitting on the couch and she was playing by my feet and then just got up and crawled and hasn't stoped since.  There was never and trial and error, no draggin one limb behind her.  She just crawled like it was nothing new.

She knew she'd done something amazing.  I was freaking out so bad Bob came running in the living room because he thought something was wrong, I couldn't stop yelling “Oh my GOD, look what your doing!!!!!”  She just smiled proudly and went about her business.

By the end of the day she was my shadow, following me from room to room.  I need some gates lol. I didn't expect my 5 month and 1 week old to get up and crawl around the house!

Echo sat up!

She's never really tried, I mean, if I sat her up she would tripod (use her hands to prop herself), but would usually fall over pretty quickly.  Today though she just sat up and was playing with her toys like she'd been doing it forever.  No assitance from me or her hands!
